(Seoul=NSP NEWS AGENCY) = Samsung SDI will unveil the Samsung Battery Box(SBB) 1.5 with enhanced capacity and safety for the first time at ‘InterBattery Europe 2024’ in Munich, Germany, starting on the 19th.

The SBB is a high-nickel NCA battery cell, module, and rack in a 20-foot(ft) container box, ready to be plugged into the grid.

The SBB 1.5 has a total capacity of 5.26MWh by stacking more batteries through internal space efficiency, and the energy density per container has improved by 37% compared to the previous product. In addition, four containers can be stacked on top of each other to reduce installation space.

In terms of safety, the effectiveness of blocking the heat propagation of the existing direct injection system has been greatly improved through the module’s embedded direct injection (EDI) technology, which enhances fire prevention and spread prevention. The EDI technology prevents the spread of fire by spraying fire extinguishing agent to the entire module including the cell in question in the event of a fire inside the SBB.

Along with SBB 1.5, Samsung SDI also unveiled its future cell lineup strategy optimized for the ESS market.

The company plans to add LFP batteries to its battery lineup for power ESS products starting in 2026, and will target the ESS market with a two-track strategy alongside its high energy density NCA batteries.
