(Seoul=NSP NEWS) = Korea’s trade conditions deteriorated for the 25th month as exports of computer, electronic and optical equipment, including semiconductors, slumped. The export value index fell 16% year-on-year, the seventh consecutive month of decline.

According to the ‘Trade Index and Terms of Trade for April 2023’ announced by the Bank of Korea on May 31st, the export volume index in April fell 3.2% compared to the same month last year. This was due to an increase in transportation equipment and chemical products, but a decrease in computer, electronic, and optical equipment.

The export value index also fell 16% year-on-year, with transportation equipment increasing, but computer, electronic, and optical equipment plummeting 38.8%.

The April import volume index decreased by 0.9% year-on-year due to a decrease in computers, electronics, optical devices, and mining products, although machinery, equipment, and transportation equipment increased.

The import amount index fell 13.5% year-on-year due to a decrease in mining products, computers, electronics, and optical devices, although machinery, equipment, and transportation equipment increased.
