(Seoul=NSP NEWS) = SK On planned to invest 470 billion won in a battery research center in Daejeon to expand its research center by 2025. The new facility would be dedicated to the next-generation battery pilot plant and global validation center (G-VC).

The location is the existing premises in the research center with 73,400㎡ (GFA) for new and extension buildings.

The company broke the ground for the next-generation pilot plant last December, hoping to complete it by the first half of next year. The new facilities will include experiment space with special equipment for developing solid-state battery materials and pilot production lines for mass production.

SK On announced it targeted the second half of 2024 to develop the prototype of a solid-state battery and to commercialize it in 2028.

G-VC is a control center for advanced battery quality assurance. Located in Daejeon, G-VC will lead the the company's battery quality assurance work in Korea and built in the second half of next year.

SK group also said they would build a green, 137,000㎡ energy R&D complex for next-generation batteries in Bucheon Daejang State-of-the-art Industrial City.
