(Seoul=NSP News Agency) hYUNJIN KIM Journalist = The Galaxy Z Fold3 and Flip3, Samsung’s third-generation foldable smartphones, were sold 1 million or more units in Korea in only 39 days, as of 4 October.

The record was the third-fastest even considering bar-type smartphones, following the records of Galaxy Note10 and Galaxy S8 models. In particular, Galaxy Z Flip3 led to higher popularity for foldable phones, taking up 70 percent of the 1 million sales.

Galaxy Z Flip3 has a four times larger front display than its predecessor to maximize usability and comes in seven colors, including cream, lavender, pink, etc., which appeals mainly to female customers in their 20s and 30s. The MZ generation accounted for 54% of the buyers.

For Galaxy Fold3, the most popular color was a luxurious Phantom Black, and the 512GB internal storage model took 40 percent of its sales.

The contract-free option phones took about 20 percent of all sales, and 58 percent of them were sold on online channels.

Also, the bigger-than-expected demands urged Samsung Elec to extend the activation period for pre-order buyers two times, for the first time in the company’s history.
