(Seoul=NSP News Agency) soon ki Lee Journalist = LG Electronics succeeded in transmitting and receiving 100m wireless data outdoors using the 6G terahertz(THz)1) band.

On the 13th, LG Electronics succeeded in transmitting a communication signal in a straight line distance of 100m or more outdoors using the 6G terahertz band at the Fraunhofer Heinrich-Hertz Research Center in Berlin, Germany.

LG Electronics and Fraunhofer jointly developed a power amplifier that stably outputs communication signals in the 6G terahertz band. It has been difficult to develop power amplifiers for ultra-wide bands such as 6G terahertz because they have short frequency reach and high power loss during antenna transmission and reception process.

The newly developed power amplifier has raised the output signal up to 15dBm, the world’s highest level, to allow stable transmission and reception in the band range of 155 to 175 GHz.

In this demonstration, LG Electronics introduced a variable adaptive beamforming, which changes the beam direction according to channel changes and receiver positions, and high-gain antenna switching technology, which transmits multiple output signals to the antenna in addition to the power amplifier.

6G mobile communication is expected to be commercialized by 2029, starting with discussions on standardization around 2025.
