(Seoul=NSP News Agency) soon ki Lee Journalist = SK HYNIX Inc. developed 1Tb QLC(Quadruple Level Cell) products and shipped samples to major SSD(Solid State Drive) controller companies.

This product uses its own QLC design technology for 4D NAND technology based on 96-layer CTF(Charge Trap Flash) which is being mass-produced now. SK Hynix plans to expand its NAND portfolio to 1Tb QLC products based on 96 layer and strengthen its responsiveness to next-generation high-capacity memory market in line with time when QLC markets are going to be formed in earnest.

QLC is a technology that can store 4 bits in a NAND cell, a minimum unit which stores data. By using this technology, it is possible to increase the degree of integration in the same area compared to Triple Level Cell(TLC), which stores 3 bits in one cell, thus enabling high-capacity products with cost competitiveness.

“Even though this product is an engineering sample, it satisfies the reliability and performance that SSDs for clients require,” said Wallace Kou, CEO of Silicon Motion in Taiwan.
