(Seoul=NSP NEWS AGENCY) = SK Hynix has successfully developed the world's first 10nm-class 6th-generation 16Gb DDR5 DRAM using a 1c micro process.
The company announced that it plans to complete preparations for mass production of the 1c DDR5 within this year, with the goal of beginning product supply next year. SK Hynix aims to drive growth in the memory semiconductor market with this new development.
The 1c DDR5 was developed by expanding the platform of the 1b DRAM. The 1c DDR5, which is expected to be mainly used in high-performance data centers, operates at a speed of 8Gbps, an 11% increase compared to the previous generation.
Additionally, power efficiency has been improved by over 9%. As the era of AI intensifies, power consumption in data centers is rising. However, SK Hynix stated that global customers operating cloud services could potentially reduce their power costs by up to 30% by adopting SK Hynix's 1c DRAM in their data centers.
