(Seoul=) = SK Telecom has launched TransTalker, an AI simultaneous interpretation solution that supports 13 languages.
It is expected to be useful for foreign tourists visiting Korea to shop, use public transport, find hotels, government offices, tourist attractions, restaurants, and more.
TransTalker currently supports 13 languages, including Korean, English, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, and Spanish. SKT plans to add more languages based on customer responses and requirements.
When a foreign tourist asks a question in his or her own language into the microphone installed in front of the transparent screen, the sentence translated into Korean is displayed on the screen of the information desk attendant.
For AI-based simultaneous interpreting, it applied features such as speech recognition(STT, speech to text), natural language processing(NPU), translation engine, and LLM(large language model) with AI specialist, Conan Technology, a member of the K-AI Alliance.
Lotte Department Store signed an agreement with SKT to introduce the solution to improve shopping convenience for foreigners, and installed ‘TransTalker’ at the information desks on the first floor of Avenue L Jamsil and the basement floor of Lotte World Mall.
Starting with Lotte Department Store, SKT plans to acquire various corporate customers who need simultaneous interpreting services.
