(Seoul=NSP NEWS AGENCY) = AliExpress, operated by China's Alibaba, has become popular in Korea, however, consumer complaints have also been increasing rapidly.
Consumer complaints related to AliExpress filed with the Consumer Federation of Korea and the 1372 Consumer Counseling Center increased by 500% in one year, from 93 cases in 2022 to 465 cases in 2023. In particular, about 150 cases were received in January 2024 alone.
Of the 465 consumer complaints received in 2023, 130 were for clothing and footwear, 124 for electrical and electronic products, 54 for cultural products, 51 for auto parts, 22 for communication and office supplies, 11 for furniture, 42 for cosmetics and health products, and 31 for other household products.
Looking at the types, non-performance of contracts accounted for 49% of the total with 226 cases, 31% with 143 cases related to contract cancellation/termination, and 18% with 82 quality complaints.
According to the damage relief status of a total of 465 consumer complaints received by the Korea Consumer Federation and 1372 Consumer Counseling Center in 2023, there are 25 refunds, 8 performance of contracts, 14 no agreements through arbitration requests from AliExpress, and 60 cases cannot be handled due to non-reply.
