(Seoul=NSP NEWS AGENCY) = SK Energy is building a dedicated production line for sustainable aviation fuel(SAF) and will begin mass production next month. The plan is to produce low-carbon products, including SAF, by using bio-based raw materials such as waste cooking oil and animal fat.
SK Energy has a dedicated SAF coprocessing production line and will begin commercial production next month.
SK Energy's new co-processing SAF production line is a method of producing petroleum products and low-carbon products by simultaneously adding bio-based raw materials to the existing petroleum product production process. A dedicated 5-kilometer-long pipeline was installed from the biofuel storage tank to the petroleum products production process to ensure that the biofuel is always available. This allows for continuous SAF production.
SK Energy plans to supply SAF to Korean Air passenger aircraft from early next year. As demand for SAF increases in the future, SK Energy will continuously produce SAF through coprocessing, but is also considering introducing dedicated SAF production facilities depending on market conditions.
